The Lamu Ring
Description
The Lamu Ring features two round discs cast from brass that are lightly hammered for a beautiful, light-reflecting finish. Named after one of Jessica’s favorite places in Kenya, it symbolises the rising and setting sun over Lamu Island. Staying true to its name, this statement piece is handmade by artisans in Kenya.
Wear it solo as a conversation starter or pair it with The Taurus Ring on your other hand.

Behind the design
“Brass rings have been some of my favorite things to pick up at markets during my journey to every country in the world. For The Lamu Ring I was inspired by similar rings that I found at the Masaai Market in Nairobi, but put my own spin on the design.
I love bold jewelry and I wanted to create bold pieces that are also timeless. We incorporated elements that the Kenyan artisans are used to making with my own take on it. This conversation-starter piece can be worn by everyone, regardless of gender, which was really important to me while designing the collection.”
- Jessica Nabongo, Founder of The Catch
Artisan-made
For the first ring collection of The Catch we partnered with a woman-led, people-first ethical jewelry manufacturing platform built to connect artisans in Kenya with the global market. Unlike centralized factory production, they use technology to enable the human workforce. These artisans are paid a fair wage, around five times the market rates, for their work.
Brass is a metal alloy comprised of copper and zinc. Known for its malleable durability, brass has been used for centuries — the first example of brass jewelry dates back to ancient Rome. Aside from how good it looks, brass is sustainable. Today almost 90% of all brass in the world is recycled. We give materials new life by using materials acquired from local markets and vendors.
